Meticulous Spirits is the brainchild of chef, author, and professor David Skinner, dubbed the real-life Willy Wonka by Washington Post food critic Tom Seitsema, AAA Magazine and other culinary and national publications. His intimate, 12-seater restaurant eculent, is one of the hardest reservations to secure of any restaurant in the world, with a waiting list of over three years.

What makes Chef David’s restaurant so special is the minute attention to detail in every aspect of the meal from the dish itself, to the custom designed plate-ware to the scents, the lighting, and the music, which is choreographed to complement each course of the 30-course experience. For the lucky few guests who are able to dine at eculent - or one of his “out of this world” events like the 101 course meal for 120 guests who dined amongst the dinosaurs at Houston’s Natural History Museum, called Around the World in 10,000 Bites, the common response to “what was it like?” is – indescribable joy.

Now, after 3 years of planning, experimenting, and designing proprietary processes and formulas, Chef Skinner is ready to unveil a line of spirits with the same degree of detail as his restaurant – hence the brand moniker Meticulous Spirits. Besides creating some of the finest tasting spirits for discerning palates, this renaissance man is looking to redefine the guest drinking experience. It all started with one question, “How can I create a complete sensory experience with a bespoke product that will reach the masses”?

 

The answer was not simple, but then neither was creating eculent. The senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste are not just mere words to Chef David, rather, they’re building blocks for a ground-breaking customer experience. Whilst taste is the common sense all spirit makers can converge on, the other senses are too often forgotten. Chef David is aiming to change all of that with the launch of Meticulous Spirits. As soon as you pick up the bottle you realize this is not an ordinary product or label. Our tactile sense is one that often is overlooked - but not by Meticulous Spirits. The bottle is heavy and crystal clear. The brand label is metal with intricate detail and watchmaker precision inlayed with copper and bronze. The spirit label is foil stamped linen, and as you would expect from a creator dubbed a real-life “Willy Wonka” there has to be an element of surprise. The linen spirit label uses micro-encapsulation to provide a special scent when picking up the bottle. And the brand label, when used with the Meticulous App, opens up a whole world of discovery. Simply rotate the bottle, click the button and the app takes you on a journey to far off lands where you will find information on the culture, the cuisine, the music, history, and of course spirits and cocktails. The information for these distant places comes from Chef David’s 30+ years of world travel and a handpicked consortium of experts, guides, tradesmen, sommeliers, musicians, mixologists, and chefs.

Chef David Skinner coined a motto when he was only 16 years old that has guided his entire life – “Some choose to look for an adventure of a lifetime, I choose to live a lifetime of adventure”. Hence the motto for Meticulous Spirits is “Adventures Revealed”, which is what the Meticulous App will do – reveal adventures you can take with a drink in your hand.
